Remembrance

Remembrance

This collection is inspired by the voices of those who lived through the Vietnam War—the soldiers, civilians, and families on both sides. Their stories, filled with pain, resilience, and survival, shaped the heart of these paintings. I also drew inspiration from historical photographs, primarily taken by American photographers. Many of these images exist in stark black and white on the internet. I sought to give them new depth, color, and perspective—expressing the layered experiences I encountered in the personal accounts I’ve read and heard.

The visual representation of war is often confined to documentary-style imagery or settings dedicated to history and remembrance. With this collection, I wanted to create something that transcends those spaces. These paintings are not just depictions of war but reflections of human experiences—meant to be seen in everyday places: a hotel, a home, a public space. Remembrance should not be hidden away in museums; it should be part of our lives, woven into the spaces we inhabit. Because remembrance matters.
